The HEMA Alliance

The HEMA Alliance is the preeminent umbrella organization for HEMA in the United States. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the HEMA Alliance seeks to support and empower HEMA clubs however it can, including providing cheap insurance for clubs, maintaining a global club tracker to help locate HEMA clubs near you, and taking on a myriad of other tasks and projects that benefit HEMA as a whole. Check out their event calendar, funding for your next HEMA event, and of course the club finder.

Fighters Against Racism (FAR)

Fighters Against Racism (FAR) seeks to claim HEMA as a martial art open and welcoming to all, regardless of race, national origin, gender, creed or color. Unfortunately, HEMA's focus on the medieval period makes it attractive to fringe hate groups who attempt to appropriate medieval themes for their own purposes. HEMA practitioners overwhelmingly reject hatred and bigotry of any kind - wearing a FAR patch or shirt is simply a visible representation of that rejection.

Esfinges - Women in Historical European Martial Arts

Esfinges (transl. "The Sphinxes") exists to bring together women martial artists and encourage their full participation in HEMA. Women are depicted as combatants in medieval martial arts treatises from the very beginning, and modern HEMA practice welcomes all fighters on equal footing regardless of gender. Some of the most successful HEMA practitioners are women whose mastery of historical techniques wins them victories in open steel tournaments.

Wiktenauer

Wiktenauer (a play on "Wikipedia" and "Liechtenauer") collects, translates, and categorizes HEMA fighting treatises for public use. It is a collaboration between researchers and HEMA practitioners across the world and is the best source of its kind. Currently, the projects spans the 14th - 16th centuries, but expansion into the 17th century is currently underway. You can help! Transliteration, translation, and other skills are in high demand - head over to Wiktenauer and get involved!
